An interesting trend has emerged at the start of 2009 that will impact your marketing strategy and your choice of SEO company. Because we are in challenging economic times, many businesses are looking to save money in their marketing budgets. This search for low-cost marketing has increased the importance of social media, an affordable and effective marketing option.
Ron Callari, writing for Scoop Independent News in New Zealand, predicts that “businesses will take a more integrated approach to social marketing in 2009 to save money as the economy continues to falter. Low-cost social marketing will become the tool of choice.” He also believes that SEO companies will help businesses repurpose their offline messages for redistribution on social media sites, like social networks, blogs, wikis and video sharing sites. This will, in turn, increase their reach and their “search authority”.
Supporting Callari’s statements, a recent study out of Toronto shows that 82% of Canadian business leaders plan to spend more on social media marketing in 2009 than they did in the previous year.
Further evidence of the importance of social media marketing was seen in a news story from the Wall Street Journal in January, 2009, which stated that advertisers have begun moving their dollars away from search advertising and towards mobile platforms and social networks. The article goes on to say that search engines have not faded from the landscape, but a significant shift towards social media is clearly underway.
So, how does your business ride the wave of social media marketing? It is not as straightforward as you might think. There are many social media sites.
How can your company become more popular? Search engine optimization training can show you.
If you manage your own Website, you may have some knowledge of how to increase your ranking on Google. But keeping up with the latest trends and information on search engine optimization (SEO) is a full-time job. It requires constant scanning and reading of SEO Websites and blogs, and who has time for that?
This is where search engine optimization training comes in. With the right training course, you can learn all of this “inside” information without having to do the actual research yourself. Leave it to your instructors to prowl the Net for information on Google algorithms and ranking secrets. All you need to do is attend a course that will tell you what’s new in the world of SEO and, more importantly, how you can apply this knowledge to your business.
For example, many SEO experts believe that Google’s algorithm (the complex and top-secret formula they use for ranking sites) has changed to base a site’s ranking more on links than on-site content. Some peg the ratio at 80%-90% links and only 10%-20% site content. The bottom line for you? Stop worrying so much about optimizing your pages and start worrying about building links.
Knowing the best way to build links without incurring the wrath of Google is not easy. You cannot just start dropping links to your Website anywhere you want. You need a clear strategy to ensure you get high-quality links and to ensure that you build your popularity gradually. Your links need to come from a variety of sources. And you need to know how to create the right anchor text to appeal to search engines.
A search engine optimization training course can tell you everything you need to know about building link popularity through:

Directories - Some are better than others and it is important that you can determine which are best suited to your business. If you live in a large centre, like Toronto, the choice of local directories alone can overwhelm you. SEO training can tell you which directories to focus on and whether it is worthwhile to pay for a listing.
Using Blogs and Articles - A lot of companies have discovered the power of blog and article marketing. Regular blog posts with the right kind of links to your site can help boost popularity. Similar in concept to blogs, articles enable you to get your name out there, and offer many chances to link to your site. ping traditional ecommerce companies increase their organic search engine marketing, I realized that the services and techniques we apply to those traditional ecommerce clients can be utilized by Internet marketers anywhere and everywhere, including affiliate marketers!
My realization led me to write this article. My goal here is to outline the general process and techniques we employ for organic search engine marketing.
I’m going to construct the body of this article with the following sections:
1. Organic search engine marketing v. paid search engine marketing (PPC) 2. Blogs v. static web pages 3. Long tail keywords v. short head keywords 4. Unique content and Web 3.0 5. Internet marketing and Web 2.0
1. Organic Search Engine Marketing v. Paid Search Engine Marketing (PPC)
Organic search engine marketing is marketing a website to increase the ranking for its web pages in the organic, or natural, search engine results pages (SERPs).
Paid search engine marketing is incorporating paid advertising strategies such as Google® Adwords or Yahoo® Search Marketing in order to be listed in the “sponsored” or “advertisement” sections of the search engine results pages (SERPs).
With the increasing costs of paid search engine marketing, advertisers have been suffering from a downward trend in return on investment (ROI). On the other hand, with more sophisticated and proven strategies for organic search engine marketing, the return on investment (ROI) for those who market to rank higher naturally in the SERPs is increasing. Therefore, we advise ecommerce companies, affiliates and super-affiliates alike to shift their resources from paid search engine marketing to organic search engine marketing.
2. Blogs v. Static Web Pages
Blogs have an inherent and distinct advantage over static web pages. Search engines like blogs better. Everything being equal (design, content, page layout, H tags, Alt tags, age, etc.), a blog page will outrank a static web page more often than not. However, all things are not equal! Blogs take advantage of plug-ins, or features, to be very search engine friendly.
We create and customize “Power Blogs” for our clients. A “Power Blog” is a search engine friendly WordPress blogs with tons of SEO plug-ins. Once we install a Power Blog we use it as a platform for Web 2.0 marketing, a.k.a. social marketing.
The benefits of our Power Blog include:
(A) Multi-Channel Visitor Strategy - Instead of having Google® be responsible for 95% of your visitors, now you can also get visitors from all of the Blog Search Engines. Because blogs use RSS (really simple syndication), you will find that other websites are syndicating your content on their websites, bringing you more visitors and links. By having multiple streams of visitors you protect yourself in case one of your traffic streams starts to underperform.
(B) Free Links To Your Site - The amount of links that you have to your site plays a huge role in how highly you rank on Google®. By utilizing the Trackback feature in Wordpress, you can automatically get other websites to link to you for free.
3. Long Tail Keywords v. Short Head Keywords
Remember, this is called “Organic Search Engine Marketing”…..it’s marketing, and marketing needs a focus. In order to focus in on what to market for, you need to have a solid foundation of the main keywords that describe your business and/or products that you are selling. These main keywords are one to three phrase keywords (or keyword phrases) generally speaking and are more than likely highly competitive. These types of keywords are known as “Short Head” keywords. For example, “car insurance.”
Once you know your short head keywords, you will want to market directly to more specific, longer keywords related to the main short head keywords. These longer, more specific keywords are known as “Long Tail” keywords. For example, “car insurance discounts in Georgia.”
Although the traffic for each long tail keyword is usually much less than its short tail relative, if you add up all the long tail keywords, they will usually add up to much more traffic and most importantly, targeted traffic, than the short tail keywords alone.
4. Unique Content and Web 3.0
Once you have targeted the long tail keywords for your business or niche, then you can start marketing for them.
The cornerstone for organic search engine marketing is unique content creation. Whether it’s 500-word articles, blog posts, blog comments, forum posts, social snippets, or videos, you are going to want to be able to create unique content based on your long tail keywords.
Web 3.0 is a term that refers to the future of the World Wide Web. In our opinion, that future includes the “Semantic Web” or web use affected by artificial intelligence. Sounds kind of like Star Wars®, Alien and E.T. all wrapped into one big and scary WWW…doesn’t it?! Well, not really of course. Semantic Web in this case just means that search engines will be able to figure out what a web page is all about in a different, more intelligent way. The major idea here is that search engines will take a more encompassing view at a page and understand its meaning rather making a determination based on figuring out which keywords pop up most often. In this new Web 3.0 scenario, a search engine might find a web page on “sun tanning in Florida” to also be quite relevant to “sun tan oil application” and therefore list this example page in the search engine results pages under both keywords.
What does Web 3.0 mean to you? Basically, when creating your unique content, keep the semantic web concept in mind and use synonyms for your target keyword wherever it’s natural. Never stuff keywords in your content, i.e. use a keyword just to use it and not when it should be used naturally…and never stuff keyword synonyms either!
5. Internet Marketing and Web 2.0
Web 2.0 is the “Social Web,” so naturally, the concept of social marketing should apply to today’s Internet Marketing strategies.
Social marketing includes posting on social networking, social news and social bookmarking websites.
You can also think of blogging as part of Web 2.0, and of course you’re covered because you have read Section 2 above.
In conclusion, whether you own your own ecommerce business and sell your own products, or if you are an affiliate or super-affiliate, organic search engine marketing must be on your “actions list.” In the long run, outranking your competitors in the search engine results pages proves to bring a higher return on investment (ROI) than trying to out-advertise your competitors in paid search engine marketing.
You now have the basic know-how to create your organic search engine marketing strategy.

Security Compliance regulations and guidelines require a Telephone engineers to create an Information Security Program designed to protect confidential information, including Non-Public Personal Information (NPPI). Failure of employees to follow the security policies and procedures of the organization is a major vulnerability to an Information Security Program.
Social Engineering by Phone
Social engineering is the act of manipulating people into performing actions or divulging confidential information. While similar to a confidence trick or simple fraud, the term typically applies to trickery or deception for the purpose of information gathering, fraud or computer system access; in most cases the attacker never comes face-to-face with the victim.
Social Engineering by Phone
The most prevalent type of social engineering attack is conducted by phone. A hacker will call up and imitate someone in a position of authority or relevance and gradually pull information out of the user. Help desks are particularly prone to this type of attack. Hackers are able to pretend they are calling from inside the corporation by playing tricks on the PBX or the company operator, so caller-ID is not always the best defense. Here’s a classic PBX trick, care of the Computer Security Institute: “’Hi, I’m your AT&T rep, I’m stuck on a pole. I need you to punch a bunch of buttons for me.’” And here’s an even better one: “They’ll call you in the middle of the night: ‘Have you been calling Egypt for the last six hours?’ ‘No.’ And they’ll say, ‘well, we have a call that’s actually active right now, it’s on your calling card and it’s to Egypt and as a matter of fact, you’ve got about $2,000 worth of charges from somebody using your card. You’re responsible for the $2,000, you have to pay that…’ They’ll say, ‘I’m putting my job on the line by getting rid of this $2,000 charge for you. But you need to read off that AT&T card number and PIN and then I’ll get rid of the charge for you.’ People fall for it.” .
Help desks are particularly vulnerable because they are in place specifically to help, a fact that may be exploited by people who are trying to gain illicit information. Help desk employees are trained to be friendly and give out information, so this is a gold mine for social engineering. Most help desk employees are minimally educated in the area of security and get paid peanuts, so they tend to just answer questions and go on to the next phone call. This can create a huge security hole.
The facilitator of a live Computer Security Institute demonstration, neatly illustrated the vulnerability of help desks when he “dialed up a phone company, got transferred around, and reached the help desk. ‘Who’s the supervisor on duty tonight?’ ‘Oh, it’s Betty.’ ‘Let me talk to Betty.’ [He’s transferred.] ‘Hi Betty, having a bad day?’ ‘No, why?…Your systems are down.’ She said, ‘my systems aren’t down, we’re running fine.’ He said, ‘you better sign off.’ She signed off. He said, ‘now sign on again.’ She signed on again. He said, ‘we didn’t even show a blip, we show no change.’ He said, ‘sign off again.’ She did. ‘Betty, I’m going to have to sign on as you here to figure out what’s happening with your ID. Let me have your user ID and password.’ So this senior supervisor at the Help Desk tells him her user ID and password.” Brilliant.
A variation on the phone theme is the pay phone or ATM. Hackers really do shoulder surf and obtain credit card numbers and PINs this way. (It happened to a friend of mine in a large US airport.) People always stand around phone booths at airports, so this is a place to be extra cautious.
IVR or phone phishing
This technique uses a rogue Interactive voice response (IVR) system to recreate a legitimate sounding copy of a bank or other institution’s IVR system. The victim is prompted (typically via a phishing e-mail) to call in to the “bank” via a (ideally toll free) number provided in order to “verify” information. A typical system will reject log-ins continually, ensuring the victim enters PINs or passwords multiple times, often disclosing several different passwords. More advanced systems transfer the victim to the attacker posing as a customer service agent for further questioning. One could even record the typical commands (”Press one to change your password, press two to speak to customer service” …) and play back the direction manually in real time, giving the appearance of being an IVR without the expense.
What is IVRS
An Interactive Voice Response (IVR) system I a computerized system that allows a person, typically a telephone caller, to select an option froma voice menu and perform transactions with a computer system. This can be as simple as obtaining account balances or as complex as performing sophisticated transactions. An IVR system plays a pre-recorded voice prompt and the caller presses a number on a telephone keypad to select the option, or speaks simple answers such as “yes”, “no”, or numbers in response to the voice prompts. Database Systems Corp. (DSC) is a leading provider of computer telephony integration products including automated call answering services and IVR phone systems. DSC turnkey IVR systems are composed of Intel processors with embedded Windows OS from Microsoft Corporation. These systems also include Dialogic computer telephony boards. DSC also provides complete Windows IVR software that lets you develop your own call answering applications. DSC can likewise perform custom ivr application development for you. Wayne Grant asked:
Search engine marketing is by far the most efficient and effective way to advertise your business. With over 86% of internet users using Google as their search engine, the need for your business to show on the first page of Google has never been greater.
Many people are unaware of search engine marketing and just take for granted the results that appear when they search for something on a search engine such as Google.
However, search engine marketing seems to defy to current doom and gloom of the recession. Think about this:
“The average Britain spends 164 minutes online everyday, compared with 148 minutes watching TV”
Over half the world’s population now has access to the web and nearly 90% of them find what they’re looking for using search engines. 36% of people think that the result at the top of the first page is the market leader and 80% of people make their choice from first page listings alone. With over 21 billion web pages wanting a first page position how can you get your website on the first page.
This is called search engine marketing and I have listed a few techniques and tips to get you started with optimising your website to rank well on a search engine. Remember that this is a basic guide to help to you on your way.
Link building
First we have to look at how search engines rank a website and decide which order to list them. The simple (very very very simple) version is, Google changed everything the way many search engine rank. The initial creators of Google (Larry Page and Sergey Brin) wanted to create a search engine that could rank a website for quality and list them in order of quality to the user. The way they decided to rank a website was to count how many other websites link to it. If other websites link to it then it must be good. So, essentially links mean votes. Like I said, this is the very simple version and there is so much more to it than this but it is a great place to start as it holds the most importance.
See who links to you and then see who links to your competitors and try to muscle in on some of their action. Simply go to yahoo.co.uk, then in the search box type “link:yourcompetitor.com”. This will bring up a list of websites linking to your competitors website. Then contact them and ask them to link to you too. Don’t be stingy. Make sure you have links going out from your website. Important though that you link to high quality websites, i.e. If your website is a property website, have links to the relevant governing bodies, Wikipedia or the largest property portals. Search engines will see your site as being a good place to get good content. Submit your website to online directories. This can be very boring and takes hours. But once you have had your site accepted in to a directory. You’ll have a link back to your website. Remember. The more the better. Subscribe to forums in your niche. You can include a link in your signature straight to your website. Remember though. Do not spam on a forum. Forum users will not like it and the moderator will probably kick you off. If you use a forum properly though you will find it quite engaging. Read blogs relating to you niche market. This is very educational as well as beneficial for link building. Read the blog then leave a comment about that blog. Don’t forget to include a link to your website though. Just don’t make it too obvious.
Social Media (web2.0)
“Facebook”, “YouTube”, “Flickr”, “Myspace” – These are all social media websites. They provide a means for people from all over the world to join online and share information. The way in which people communicate vary though. “Flickr” allow people to upload photos and share them with other users or even comment on pictures uploaded. “Youtube” allow people to upload videos etc. The number of people visiting these websites to share information is in the millions. So maybe you could use these social communities to spread the word about your website. Social media is a great way to connect with hard to reach people that share the same interests. There are a number of ways to do this.
Make your content interesting enough for people to want to view it. Then, unlike search engine optimisation, change the content often, This will make people want to keep visiting you. Make it easy for people to tag or bookmark your new content. Bookmarking is very fashionable at the moment. The most popular way of doing this is by getting an “addthis” button due to its ease of use, however, there are many buttons available. Use more than just text in your site. Create a video and submit it to a video sharing website like “youtube”, Create a PDF version of your content and create an audio version too. Submit it to appropriate websites. Don’t forget the link back to your site. Blog.Blog.Blog then blog some more. The simple truth is that the majority of internet users love blogs. So do search engines. Create a blog and use it. A lot. Submit it to sites like “technorati.com”. If it is good enough people will link to you and then share and tell others about your writings. Make friends. The social media community, are very social and friendly. They will want to talk to you and ask you questions. Make sure you are polite and take time to answer any messages. Negative feedback spreads faster than positive feedback.
Pay Per Click
This is a method in which you pay to get people to your website. Have you ever done a search on Google and found there are two columns. The Colum on the right is called sponsored links. They are adverts from businesses. They do not pay anything for appearing there but they do pay when you click on the advert (pay per click). This is a very fast way to get people to your website but you do have to pay. I would recommend getting a pay per click company to help here. It will save you a lot of money. However, if you must have ago your self here are some very basic tips.
Budget. Make sure you create a sensible budget and stick to it. Don’t get in to a bidding war. Don’t just rely on pay per click as the be all and end all for your business marketing. PPC is great for promoting specific products and services very quickly but you always have to pay for the result. Analyze your cost per click and cost per acquisition closely. Then compare it to your other marketing activities. See which one works best. Remember that sites such as Google take into account the quality of your website content being marketed more than how much you are bidding. PPC is my favorite part of search engine marketing due mainly to the sheer speed of return on investment BUT make sure it is done properly other wise it can be devastating. Always have two ads running at the same time for each product but with different ad text. Google will use the most successful advert for you and show that advert more often, helping you gain more traffic. Change to poorest performing advert and see if it improves. Keep repeating. This will eventually lead to you having the best possible advert showing.
Search engine optimisation
Remember the two columns we just mentioned. Search engine optimization is the are of optimizing your website enough for Google to rank it on the left hand column. This list is ordered on how relevant your website is. And you don’t have to pay for these listings. Ever noticed how all the big companies appear at the top of the first page. Now we should as “which came first – The chicken or the egg?”. Search engine optimisation is generally split into two categories onsite optimisation and off site optimisation. The first, when done property is very important but it will only get you to the starting line. Offsite optimization is the race itself. A good search engine optimisation campaign should include all the search engine marketing techniques mentioned and when you really get into it you can learn the more advanced techniques. Below are a few basics.
Include your keywords in your domain, title, meta tags. The first thing a search engine spider will read is your domain name. i.e www.yourdomain.com. This doesn’t mean anything to a search engine so ideally use www.yourdomain.com/your-key-words, or even better www.your-key-words.com . Then the next part is your title. Don’t just have “home Page” or “Front Page”. I would have “your domain – your key words”. This also matches the domain name. Then repeat the same in your meta data. And sprinkle it throughout your web page. Keep it readable though. Make each page different. This helps search engines differentiate them and should lead to them indexing each of your pages separately. Get a site map and submit it to major search engines. Don’t pay for this service though. It amazes me that people actually charge for this. Just type into Google “sitemap” and you should be presented with website that will generate you a sitemap for free. Keep going. Older sites generally rank better than new sites. It is believed that older websites must be more reliable. As there is nothing we can do about this just focus your time on other offsite optimisation such as link building, social media optimization and if you just can’t wait, Pay per click. Search engine optimisation is a long term solution but boy is it worth waiting for. Validate your HTML code. Visit “validator.w3.org/ “.This will ensure that web browsers show your website correctly and helps search engine to index your site. There is no point in optimising your website if it doesn’t work properly.
Other useful tips
Get Google analytics. It is one thing having a website but you need to know what people are doing when they are on it. Google analytics is very comprehensive and FREE but it does not report in real time. Woopra however does report in real time. The choice is yours. Before doing anything else you should get one of these other wise how will you know your efforts are paying off. If you decide to use a company to undertake your search engine marketing campaign (recommended) make sure you choose your search engine marketing company wisely. Don’t just go on recommendation. It is going to be a long working relationship so the important thing is that you get on with them. Do your own research on the industry. Think twice about search engine marketing firms that say they can guarantee a first page listing in a short time, the methods they use WILL end up in your website being banned. BMW found this out the hard way.
Search engine marketing is not an easy option but when done properly will bring untold rewards.
This is by no means an exhaustive list but it will give people new to the concept a few things to get on with and research. Look out for more articles that will start to break the subjects down into more detail.

Gen Wright asked:
If you are not familiar with article submission or social bookmarking, perhaps this article will be improve your understanding. Article submission and social bookmarking are two of the most talked about methods of link building. But first things first - why build links in the first place?
Link building is done for two reasons. One, to get direct traffic from the links. And two, to get better rankings from the search engines. Now what has link building got to do with search engines? You see, the search engines count links as “votes”. The more one way back links you have to your website, the more “votes” you have. Search engines see these sites as authority sites, and any content that you post on these sites will rank well.
Once you understand this, you know where article directories are getting all that traffic - from the search engines! There are hundreds of article directories online. Some are already well established and any articles that are published on these sites will start to show up in the search engines in a matter of days. So if these are your articles, you are already getting exposure for your business. The readers will read what you have to say in the articles, and decide whether or not they want to visit your websites.
Each article contains two to three links in the author resource box. The author resource box is where you promote yourself or your business. That is how online visitors find your websites - by searching for the information they want, reading your articles, and eventually clicking on these links to visit your website. Once they are on your website, you got yourself a potential customer. Of course, the search engines also recognize these links and your websites will start to show up in the search engines as well.
Social bookmarking works in a similar fashion, except that you don’t post articles. You post URLs to social bookmarking websites. Social bookmarking websites are community based. That means if one member of the community finds a great website, he or she will be able to share it with family and friends through the website.
In other words, once a link has been posted on a social bookmarking site, others will have access to the links immediately. Search engines will also be able to crawl these links and visit your sites more often. In addition, social bookmarking links also count as back links for your websites.
The nature of social bookmarking sites is similar to the nature of the Internet - it is viral. That means for sites that are worth mentioning, the links will spread very quickly through the social bookmarking community. One person will share the link with two, two will share with four, and so on. The viral effect has taken off. Note that while the viral effect continues to work, the business owner is not spending any money on advertising. That’s why more and more business owners are looking to promote their websites using social bookmarks.
Remember, on the Internet, it’s all about traffic. And traffic depends on back links. The more back links you have, the more traffic you get. So if you haven’t given article submission or social bookmarking a try, it’s about time you do.

Todd Ash asked:
Social bookmarking is the habit or practice of saving bookmarks to a web site and “tagging” .Social bookmarking sites are a popular way to store, classify, share and search links.
But do not let the use of NoFollow fool you, the search engines are looking beyond the incoming links from social bookmarking sites to gauge their value to their search indexes. The external metadata compiled via user generated descriptions, tags, titles and categorization is incredibly valued by the search engines, as in the same philosophy as anchored backlinks, descriptive content about a web site defined by the users of that site who are not associated with the marketing or coding of that site, can be extremely powerful in gauging the importance and relevance of the content and tags which are used on that site.
Bookmarks show how a site is perceived, and when these sites allow voting, they also show the engines or whatever classification system which monitors voting, how people feel about the quality of the site. Furthermore, social bookmarking can introduce a site to the search engines, as in some cases, people may find and bookmark a site or a site’s internal pages before a search engine can find those pages via another form of inbound link.
Social bookmarking is a web 2.0 phenomenon that allows users to create and share “bookmarks”. It is the equivalent of adding a website to your list of favorites, but you can use this set of bookmarks on any computer by logging into your account. The reason why it is called “social bookmarking” is because the users that create the bookmarks can also look at related pages created by other people.
Social bookmarking sites are search engine friendly and within seven days of submission, links start to appear in all major search engines. If you are serious about your sites Link Building, Ranking and Traffic Social Bookmarking is a must.
IBM’s Dogear provides an excellent example of an enterprise social bookmarking tool in action. The developers from IBM Research, David Millen, Jonathan Feinberg, and Bernard Kerr, optimized Dogear for intranet use, resulting in tagging capability combined with authentication of the tagger. You can tag intranet as well as internet material, and your corporate-directory presence can have your tags (as can your blogs).
You can see others within your firm with the same bookmarks as well as the bookmarks of individuals. IBM added collaborative filtering to infer stuff that people might want from their tagging activity and let them know about it. IBM has also integrated its enterprise social bookmarking system with its corporate search engines, giving the user access to the benefits of both.
So, the question,? Should you pay any attention to social bookmarking?? And the answer is, make your site worthy of bookmarking. Bookmarks appear to web crawlers as links to your page, and that makes them very valuable SEO tools. For some search engines, the more bookmarks that lead back to your site, the more ?votes?
So, visit some of the social bookmarking sites on the Internet. Learn how they work. And set up your own account. Then, create your own list of links that includes your web sites, as well as other web sites that users might find relevant or useful.
On the web-site side, be sure to include the code snippets provided by social bookmarking organizations that allow users to tag your site easily. Then, maintain it all. Don’t just forget your account completely. If you do, eventually it will disappear and all the advantage of having one will go as well. Instead, continue using social bookmarking. Over time, the rewards will be increased traffic to your web site.
Social bookmarking sites are looking for extraordinary content, not just run of the mill stuff. It doesn’t matter how great of a writer you are, every single thing that ends up on your blog or your web page is not “vote-worthy”. Social bookmarking has become so competitive that people are asking for votes for every single thing that they put up on the Internet, which entirely defeats the purpose of the entire social bookmarking industry.
With regard to creating a high-quality search engine, a social bookmarking system has several advantages over traditional automated resource location and classification software, such as search engine spiders. All tag-based classification of Internet resources (such as web sites) is done by human beings, who understand the content of the resource, as opposed to software, which algorithmically attempts to determine the meaning of a resource. Also, people tend to find and bookmark web pages that have not yet been noticed or indexed by web spiders.
Social bookmarking leverages the popular social software phenomenon of tagging. Users can apply tags, or keywords, to the bookmarks they save. In social bookmarking, tagging creates a grass-roots taxonomy for the shared bookmarks. Users can search by tags to find bookmarks relevant to their interests. Taxonomies created through bookmarking are called “folksonomies.”
Social Bookmarking websites are basically sites that categorize and store ‘bookmark links’ (links which take one to a specific website). Millions of visitors flood these Social Bookmarking sites to search for information.
The implications of social bookmarking are many, and some are not so obvious. Marketers can use social bookmarking sites to collect all kinds of demographic information from a users personal bookmarks, then personalize that user’s advertising experience (one can only imagine the companies advertising to those who have bookmarked the vanishing point site referenced above).
The result would be a much more effective advertising campaign by the vendor than the current scattershot methods, and those social bookmarking sites could in turn charge much more for their advertising space. An interesting proposition if you’re a company looking to target a niche audience.
But could social bookmarking work within the walls of an enterprise? Could a company offer social bookmarking as a reference tool on its intranet, allowing developers, sales executives, janitors, and engineers alike to create their own (or department) repositories for information relevant to their jobs? This could mean the end of the reference manual, as well as the three-hour meeting in which two of those hours are spent reviewing a projects progress. Make the project notes and reference manuals available as bookmarks on the intranet, and that meeting time and brainpower could be put to better use.

Google’s Open Social and How it Will Revolutionize Search Engine Optimization Services. The social networks are becoming very popular not only for every day college kids, but also for businesses. Right now businesses are starting to enter in this network to discover there target markets and increase their business online success.
Find out how you can use Google’s Open Social, along with other social networks, to improve your search engine rankings.
If you have been following the social network arguments and “inner moves” among Google, Facebook and Microsoft, then you should have realized how important Social Networks are these days. People are flocking social networks; search engines, as well as other online companies saw the big potential of harvesting more user trending information from them, as well as the monetary benefits that come from posting advertising text or banners on them.
The Open Social move by the search engine giant, Google can bring about great benefits to online users and programmers. Web social application developers say that it is a great move for Google to open different social networks, and share applications among them. Others say that is very similar to the Open ID service and would greatly benefit users who wish to migrate or transfer their content from one social site to another. While others laud this achievement, others also see that this might be Google’s response to the Microsoft and Facebook advertising tandem which is strongly gaining ground in social networking, in fact it has passed the stage of being just another “hype”; it is now THE trend. Through it all however, Open Social will surely become another milestone in Search Engine Optimization Service.
Google has already been “in talks” with some social networks to fulfill the Open Social requirements, like Myspace, Friendster and LinkedIn. Google is hoping that this will spread like wildfire to other big social networks, with Facebook probably first in line. Google is starting another big revolution; right after it has stirred not just “ripples”, but “waves” online with its pioneering campaign on Adsense. There’s always something great to expect from Google these days. Open Social will definitely be another crowd drawer that can improve search engine rankings.
The Open Social API will provide developers the capability to create working applications that can be used on different social networks, which greatly spell another move to entice other social sites to join in the Google bandwagon. This will certainly change the way social networks function, and will greatly create a whole new impact on search engine optimization services, focused entirely on the social network hype. In another point of view, this will invite a lot of application developers to swarm social networks where they can freely use the Google API to create and reshape different ideas, thus making social networks far more potent networking tools.
The Open Social move will revolutionize online social networks, and will aid in centralizing a typical user’s Google account data across different social networks, allowing for faster access or sign-up. This is apparently a GREAT thing to expect from Google that will have big benefits for web developers and users alike.

Search engine marketing or SEO is a known term in the internet world these days, but SMO or social media optimization is a comparatively newer term. SMO is a bifurcation of the SEO services, but unfortunately not many business owners, know how to use it in order to increase their search popularity.
Where Search Engine Optimisation works on search engines the social media optimization works on social media sites. The social media sites are not exactly focused on businesses, but are more into social interaction. Some examples of social media optimization sites are blogs, forums, podcasts, video sites and community based websites.
The Search Engine Optimisation websites, do not really aim at replacing Search Engine Optimisation, instead, they only tend to compliment the functionality of SEO services. While SEO provides long term ranking to the websites, the SMOs are famous to create a viral buzz to a business, particularly to a small business. They are like gossip mongers who spread news about your website like wild fire. This helps in building in curiosity and attracting visitors to your website.
The drawback of social media optimization (SMO) lies in the fact that the buzz that they create fades away too soon. News is news till no one has heard about it, but once people are aware of it, it is of no use, where as the Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) has a higher stand here for the simple reason that they are permanent and effective too.
Experts believe that both SMO and SEO are partners that compliment each other. A great way to use them is to link the website to some of the SEO quality content pages every time the social media sites name the website. This proves that content is an essential part of both SEO and SMO techniques.
There are various content rich websites that work as social media sites. One such social media site is Yahoo! Answers that not only answer various queries raised by the end users but they also indirectly promote the websites.
Though social media optimization is helpful in website promotion and visibility, it will never be able to take the position Search Engine Optimisation occupies. SEO is much higher in results and efficiency than any other website optimization.

Gregory Burrus asked:
There have been many debates as to whether internet marketing services that use social networking and media sharing web sites to improve search engine optimization really work. Do they actually help your website gain improved search engine rankings? These all have been referred to by terms like social media, social media marketing, word of mouth marketing, buzz marketing and web 2.0. Social websites have become the latest craze on the internet and these terms have become the buzz words.
Social media websites and networking web sites offer the website owner a straightforward approach to bond with another community of people who have related points of views or interests like you. Some social networking websites group people with common interests, but some websites are “traditional networking sites” and allow you to search for friends based on your interests. So now how do these websites really operate. In websites like MySpace users share music which was what helped rocket MYspace into the well renown place it is today and in Facebook, users create their personal information that they want shared and use pictures, software programs and audio, videos to display or depict their business environment. In websites like Fastpitch, Joe Popular and Adlandpro the users create product and sale pitches and work with each other. Promotiing your website using these new tools is termed social media marketing.
How can you benefit and improve your search engine optimization ranking by using social media websites? When you use social media marketing and social networking , you have the opportunity to expose your website to a much larger group of people. When your site becomes popular in a social media site, people talk about your site and the post that becomes popular. This is a form of viral marketing that is word of mouth. The additional links means that as you grow these natural links from a large number of relevant websites, your rankings improve in the search engine due to increased organic search traffic.
Another advantage is that search engines programs that roam the web are keen on social media and networking websites and typically go after links on these websites. This means if you have your site link on social networking and bookmarking websites, your search engine optimization ranking is better and your website site will be indexed quickly. Getting bookmarked from different users and different social media websites will definitely help your site rank better on search engines.
Like it or not, social media websites have become an integral part of the internet because social marketing is easy to do, search engines love social links and hence your business by default will benefit. So if you are engaged in operating a website, and search engine optimization is important then you must realign your site to exploit the popular social media websites for increased traffic. To take advantage of this new method of building business you need to know what steps to perform? Well explore search engine optimization services. Also explore social media marketing and the difference to social networking websites.
